Railroad Ave Project

Back in 2018, the city approved a project to improve the safety and usability of Railroad Ave as it comes into town from the south. The engineering was completed, and the project was ready to go. For various reasons, there was no funding at the time, so the project has been on hold since then.

Recently the city was awarded a grant that will cover the entire cost of the project--something that rarely happens. The map above shows the plans. The redesign will allow for a much better and safer flow of traffic in and out of Sugar City, especially for the truck traffic from Sun-Glo and Dickinson Foods.

The traffic in the area will be rerouted as necessary during the project, with as little inconvenience as possible. Please be on the look out for notices and signs about the project, as it should be starting soon.

Fiber Project

The project to install fiber in the older areas of the city as part of the Fybercom & Madison County & Sugar City agreement is underway--who can miss all of the crews in town? Fiber is a great option for residents. Please be patient with the crews. They work fast and well, overall, but such construction can be a hassle.

Public Notification Improvements

The recent water line break in town highlighted how the city can improve in keeping the residents up to date on events and possible emergencies.

The city has an app to help communicate with residents. We've not had much luck getting residents to sign up. The app can be downloaded on Google Play or the Apple App Store. Just search for Sugar City Idaho. Through the app we can send out notifications as needed.

We will also be better at quickly updating a banner message on our website and our phone line for any immediate issues in the city.

Sugar Salem Moody Cemetery

The SSM Cemetery District is beginning a campaign to raise the levy we all pay to help them maintain the cemetery. The current levy hasn't been raised in decades, and the cemetery is showing it. The board will be asking for residents' support for the levy increase. As they say, we currently pay more for mosquito abatement than we do for the cemetery levy. I'm in favor of making sure the district has sufficient funds to maintain the cemetery and preserve this special place for our history and for our future.

And Finally: Sugar Days!
