Water Rights and the City App

Water Rights Mitigation Notice to the City Long story short: the city was notified by the powers that be (IDWR: Idaho Department of Water Resources) that some of our water rights would be restricted because of the ongoing and predicted water shortages this season. The council authorized the mayor to enter the city into an agreement with a coalition or cooperative of other cities who are working together to share rights so each city has what they need. This is a solid, precautionary fix to the issue. The long-term fix will involve Sugar City doing an evaluation of all of our water rights. We have a lot of surface rights we could use to our advantage more than we currently are, either through secondary irrigation systems (expensive) or through possible recharging of the aquifer to offset our ground water use (potentially not as expensive, and we could get a nice recharge site we could use for some water recreation--think Rigby Lake). In any case, Mayor Adams and the city staff are going

5.5 mile loop?

Parking Area for Walking/Biking Path New Parking Lot The city has recently re-acquired the property at the corner of Center and Railroad Ave (south side of Center St). We are considering putting in a parking area that would serve the walking path along railroad avenue and would be connected to the path that runs through the business park. This would require a new crosswalk on Center Street. The red area below would be the parking lot, and the black line would be a connecting path to the business park path. Giant Loop Wouldn't it be great if we could get a continuous walking and biking path that nearly encircled the entire city? It could connect from the business park and follow the Salem Canal north past the new jr. high, east all the way to the Teton Island Canal at Hwy 33, and then turn south and following the canal all the way back around until it connects back to the path along Railroad Ave. We could have other paths that branched off of it to other trails throughout the city.

Walking in the Business Park

Sugar City Business Park  New comm tower I noticed the the new Madison County Communication Tower is up in the business park. It should be a great asset to the county and the city. When it was proposed by the county, I voted in favor of it, but I had some concerns about the height--140+ft. Now that I see it, I don't think it's height is much of a worry at all. It's quite unobtrusive. In fact, I bet most people in Sugar City haven't even noticed it.  Landscaping We have some new businesses coming into the park soon. They will be great additions to the development and the city. I appreciate the landscaping done by most of the businesses in the park. When the landscaping is mature, the walking path around the park will be even nicer than it is now. There are a couple of businesses that still need to get their landscaping up to code. The city is working with the owners to make this happen. Here are examples of some nicely done lots in the park:
